Mobile massage can help you

Updated: Aug 29

What is Mobile Massage?

Mobile massage means care comes to you. Instead of needing to travel to a clinic, I bring massage therapy into your home - making it easier when fatigue, pain, or treatment side effects make getting out difficult.

Sessions don’t usually involve a traditional massage table. Instead, the massage takes place wherever you feel most comfortable on the day - whether that’s your bed, a recliner, or the couch. This flexibility helps reduce stress and supports a more relaxing, comforting experience.

Techniques Used in Mobile Massage for Cancer Care

1. Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a gentle technique that uses long strokes, kneading, and circular movements. This type of massage is ideal for relaxation and stress relief.

It can help improve circulation and promote a sense of calm, making it a popular choice for cancer patients.

2. Gentle Touch Massage

Gentle touch massage focuses on light pressure and soothing movements. This technique is particularly beneficial for patients who may be sensitive to touch or experiencing pain.

The goal is to provide comfort and relaxation without causing any discomfort.

3. Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage massage is designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping to reduce swelling and improve immune function.

This technique can be especially helpful for cancer patients who may experience lymphedema as a result of treatment.

Preparing for Your Mobile Massage Session

To help you get the most from your session, here are a few suggestions:

  • Create a comfortable space: Choose a spot where you feel most at ease - your bed, a recliner, or the couch for example. Keep the area warm and quiet, dim the lights if you like, and add soft music if it helps you relax.

  • Share your needs: Let your therapist know about any areas of discomfort, health conditions, or preferences before the session. This ensures the massage is gentle, safe, and tailored to you.

  • Dress for comfort: Wear loose, easy-to-move clothing. This helps you feel relaxed and allows the therapist to work comfortably around your body.

  • Hydrate if you can: Sipping water before and after your massage can support your wellbeing, but only do what feels comfortable for you.

What to Expect During a Mobile Massage Session

During a mobile massage session, the therapist will typically arrive with all the necessary equipment, including a portable table if needed, plus lotions. The therapist will request that you provide several towels for the massage, for draping.

Once you are settled, the therapist will discuss your needs and preferences. They may ask about any areas of pain or discomfort and how you are feeling overall.

The session will begin with gentle movements to help you relax. The therapist will adjust their techniques based on your feedback, ensuring you are comfortable throughout the experience.

After the session, take a moment to relax and enjoy the benefits of the massage. You may feel a sense of calm and relief, which can last for hours or even days.

The Importance of Self-Care

For cancer patients, self-care is crucial. Mobile massage is just one of many ways to prioritise your well-being.

Incorporating regular massage sessions into your routine can help you manage stress, alleviate pain, and improve your overall quality of life.

Remember, taking time for yourself is not selfish; it is an essential part of your healing journey.
